While my itinerary shows the lengths of each segment of the Jeju Olle-gil, it did not—until today—show the extra distance I'll need to walk to reach my lodging for the night. In some cases, my lodging sits less than 100 meters away from the trail's endpoint, but in others, I'll have to walk as far as 5.2 km beyond the endpoint to reach my bed for the night. I've resigned myself to doing the extra walking on the assumption that longer walks are healthier. In all, the extra distance adds up to about 21 km, although that number could be as high as 30 km since I have to walk extra distance off the trail to reach my lodging, then walk the same distance back to the trail the following morning to resume my path.
In other news: I finished squaring away my lodging. I've got a place to stay every day, now, and in most cases, I was able to find a motel, hotel, or minbak, none of which require advance reservations. My buddy JW plans to join me for a couple days, but he hasn't locked down his travel dates yet. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I'm sensing a lack of enthusiasm for JW's company on this trip. Hope it all works out--you've got a pretty precise plan in place, not sure how you'll be able to accommodate the whims of a fellow traveler...
Well, he's my best Korean buddy, and I'll be happy to have him along for part of the trip, but he never makes things easy, so hanging with him can be a real exercise in patience. Basically, he's a good guy; he's just nonlinear in how he thinks and acts, like a lot of his fellow Koreans.
